Road trip to North Bay, Ontario. December
27 - Jan 1
Scouts travelled to Cleveland, Ohio to
crash Jim's sister's house and then onto Niagra Falls. We crossed
the Canadian border and several hours later arrived in North Bay to a
strong snowstorm and a steep road. Scouts camped, cooked, and
played in a lakeside setting in about two feet of snow. A snow
cave was constructed with great emphasis on packing style. On the
trip home, scouts enthusiastically celebrated New Years Eve in the
Wal-Mart parking lot in Summerville, West Virginia. Remember the
dead cat event.

Kerr Lake Campout. December 15-16
Scouts participated in a Back to Basics Camp to
learn critical camping and outdoors skills for
Advancement. There is no bad weather, only bad gear and bad tent
construction!

USS Yorktown. December 7-9
Scouts travelled to Charleston, South Carolina to camp on the
battleship and trour the sites. The trip was again very popular
and will be scheduled again next year.

Parkwood Christmas Parade. December 2
Scouts marched and passed out candy in the
annual Parkwood Christmas Parade

Mountain
Biking. November 23
Scouts travelled to the Uwharrie Mountains for a day
trip of mountain biking on rugged trails

Caving
- October 27-28
A collection of 14 and older scouts made a return trip to the caves of
central Virginia. Exploring caves is a great scout activity that
teaches responsibility and confidence.

Camp
Campbell Water Park - Aug 24-26
Scouts and
leaders recreated the annual Camp Campbell Water Park
extravaganza. Parents and siblings are always encouraged to camp
for this weekend or visit on Saturday as Day Campers. The camp
featured the water slide, monkey bridge, zip line, safe swim area,
sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and tubing behind motorboats.

Durham Bulls Baseball Game - Tuesday,
August 14
Scouts, leaders, and families attended the Durham Bull's baseball
game. It was a scorching hot evening but fun was had by all.

World
Jam 2007 in England
Scouts from all over the world travelled to the birthplace of scouting
in England to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the scouting
movement. Two scouts from troop 451 had the honor of
participating and sent back these pictures.

Camp Raven
Knob -
July 22-28
42 Scouts and 14
adults attended summer camp at Camp Raven Knob located in the Blue
Ridge mountains near Mt. Airy, North Carolina. Scouts earned
approximately 160 merit badges and other awards, and many of them
completed a good number of rank requirements. Michael was elected
as this year's Honor Camper.

Tuscarora- June
24-30
Several 451 scouts spent a week of summer at Camp
Tuscarora in
Eastern North Carolina where they enjoyed a BMX bike track, skateboard
park, fishing pond, and great scout fellowship. Click here for

Springs Camping and Rafting on
the French Broad River - May 25-26
One bus and
6
carloads of scouts camped at the U.S. Forest
Service Silvermine Campground on the banks of the French Broad River
and next to the Appalachian Trail. The full day raft trip is
always
one of the highlights of the year. |

Troop
451 hosted the Spring Mawatt District Camporee - May 4-6
Over 401 scouts and
adults enjoyed Camp Tuscarora.
Troop 451, which brought
about 100
of the 400 people, hosted the Camporee. Our range officers opened
up five shooting ranges (rifle, shotgun, archery, BBgun and slingshot)
which were busy all day, and they also provided fun activities out in
the woods and fields - tomahawk throw, obstacle course, fire building,
catapults, water bottle rockets, and field games.
Lost
scout Search- March 19
Several scouts and adults made the impromptu trip
to
Doughton State Park to aid in the search for a fellow boy scout whose
disappearance and recovery made national news.
Jamestown
camping and cycling - March 17 - 18
Sixteen scouts and eight
adults
travelled to Jamestown to take part in the
22nd Annual Military through the Ages gathering. More than 200
re-enactors portrayed soldiers and military encounters throughout
history including the 1318 Scottish and English War, Hundred Years War,
War of the Roses, French and Indian War, American Revolution, War of
1812, American Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the Vietnam War.
Military re-enactors engaged in mock skirmishes and presented tactical
demonstrations.
Winter
Camp Raven Knob - February 17 - 18
Scouts
and adults spent a frosty weekend at Camp Ravenknob to work on shotgun,
rifle, and archery.
Timberline
Ski Trip -
January 19-21
Over fourty adults,
scouts and family members braved the trip to the Canaan Valley area of
West
Virginia. The snow was deep around the cabins and the slopes were
plush. All scouts enjoyed challenging themselves on the mountain
and
several achieved the snowsport merit badge.

Several scouts and a few brave
adults made the trip to a deep cavern administred by the Richmond Area
Speliological Society.
